Your mouth is a complex system and, as such, is vulnerable to many different problems. However, many issues can be avoided by seeing our dentist and team for your regular cleanings and exams, eating a healthy and balanced diet, brushing your teeth twice a day, and flossing before going to bed. Some common dental problems can include:
- Bad Breath — Also known as halitosis, this can be the result of poor oral hygiene, tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer or personal habits. We can help you find the cause of this problem and find the best solution.
- Cosmetic Issues — People often visit our office to make their smiles more attractive. If you are unhappy with what you see when you look in the mirror, we can talk with you about your options for cosmetic dentistry.
- Dental Emergencies — We offer emergency dentistry to address problems such as teeth that are loose or lost or soft tissue damage due to a trauma. We can also see you for an emergency visit for oral pain or swelling. When you call our office, our team will schedule your appointment as soon as possible and provide you with dental first-aid instructions.
- Gum/Periodontal Disease — This problem is most often the result of a buildup of plaque and tartar on the surfaces of the teeth. When left untreated, the gums begin to recede, and they will swell and bleed. Gum disease also increases the risk of cavities, loose or lost teeth, resorption in the jawbone, and problems that can affect your general health. The solution may be as simple as improving your diet, brushing and flossing. In cases of advanced gum disease, our dentist may suggest a more aggressive form of treatment.
- Mouth Sores — Cold and canker sores typically go away within two weeks. But if a sore is large or does not disappear, you should call our office to see if this sore is the result of an underlying problem and discuss your treatment options with our dentist.
- Oral Cancer — Although this can be a very serious and deadly disease, it can be easily and successfully treated the earlier it is detected. We perform oral cancer screenings during your routine checkups, but you should schedule a visit any time you notice something out of the ordinary with your oral tissues.
- Tooth Erosion — This refers to the loss of tooth enamel from problems such as poor dental hygiene, acid reflux, or sugary or acidic foods and drinks.
- Tooth Sensitivity — Sensitivity to pressure or cold, hot, or sweet foods or beverages could be an indicator of tooth decay or a cracked tooth. Left untreated, the problem could result in an infection in the pulp of your tooth.
Our dentist and team will be happy to talk with you about these problems and help you find the best solution for you. Call our office to plan your visit.
